Waterfall Hikes

Nantahala River Rafting and Ziplining

The River includes class II and III rapids through a beautiful and scenic gorge. The Nantahala trip takes about 3 hours and is 8 miles in length and ends with an exciting class III rapid at the Nantahala Falls.


The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad

The Biltmore and Asheville

Travel Time: 1 Hour


Asheville is known for its vibrant art scene and historic architecture including one of Mr. Kress’s very own at 19 Patton Street in Downtown. Built in 1928 as one of Mr. Kress’s original stores it is today home to the work of over 80 regional artists. The most well known architectural masterpiece is George Vanderbilt’s Biltmore Estate which is a must see on a trip through western North Carolina.


I came here for a visit with family, but the lodge is so well-maintained that it felt like we'd been allowed to stay in an excellent museum or a movie set. It's a beautiful building with beautiful grounds, the kind of place that could easily be a museum or movie set. Lisa and Mary, the ladies running the lodge, were very welcoming and friendly.

I only gave the lodge four stars for location, but that's because I'm the only member of my family who isn't thrilled about driving in the mountains. If you like being halfway up the side of the mountain, you'll love the very things I didn't appreciate. Even though the driveway is over a mile long and felt really steep and narrow, I could make it all the way up in my little car without any problems. It wasn't as bad going back down, probably because I knew there wouldn't be any surprises.
